What is a Gerber viewer?

A Gerber viewer reads the image files a PCB design tool exports (the Gerber RS-274X format, plus Excellon drill files) and draws each manufacturing layer so you can visually check the board that will actually be built. It is the last sanity check between your EDA software and the fab: layer alignment, missing layers, drill positions, board outline and clearances. See what a Gerber file is for the format basics.

Supported file formats

• Gerber RS-274X copper, mask and silkscreen layers (.gbr, .ger, .gtl, .gbl, .gts, .gbs, .gto, .gbo, .gtp, .gbp, .gko)
• Excellon drill files (.drl)
• A full board release packaged as a .zip archive

How to view a Gerber file

1. Export Gerber and drill files from your EDA tool, or zip your board release.
2. Drag the files onto the viewer above (or use Open File).
3. Toggle layers, switch to board view, and measure to inspect the design.
4. When it looks right, review the pre-order checklist before sending it to fabrication.
